COVID-19 Testing

This page contains information on current testing options and guidance for student, faculty and staff.

Student Testing

Testing is vital in determining COVID-19 infection and mitigating spread. We will continue to use best practices around testing individuals for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. Testing strategies include:

Signs, Symptoms and Exposure (SSE) Testing

  • If you are showing signs or symptoms of COVID-19:
    • Call Health & Counseling Services at (509) 313-4052 for an appointment to be tested.
  • If you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, or have tested positive for COVID-19:
  • Individuals who should be tested for current infection of COVID-19 include those who have:
    • Signs or symptoms of COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status or prior infection
    • Non-vaccinated individuals who have had close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone with confirmed COVID-19
    • Non-vaccinated individuals who have taken part in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19 because they cannot physically distance as needed to avoid exposure, such as travel, attending large social or mass gatherings, or being in crowded or poorly-ventilated indoor settings
    • Fully vaccinated people who have come into close contact with someone with COVID-19 should be tested 3-5 days following the date of their exposure and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result.
  • The following individuals do NOT need to be tested for current COVID-19 infection:
    • People who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months and recovered do not need to get tested following an exposure as long as they do not develop new symptoms

Targeted Testing

  • Targeted Testing is performed by Health and Counseling Services in collaboration with SRHD and is the testing of close contacts of a confirmed case (both symptomatic and asymptomatic). Further targeted testing occurs based on the test results of close contacts and other epidemiologic factors surrounding each specific case.

Surveillance Testing

  • Surveillance Testing on campus will persist only for special populations as needed (e.g., student athletes per NCAA guidelines, nursing students per requirements of clinical site or WA DOH). Walk-in testing will no longer be offered on campus.

Testing for Specific Student Populations

  • Athletics will continue testing protocols for student athletes for a number of weeks as competitions continue.
  • Law School testing has concluded for the semester.
  • Gonzaga-in-Florence and other Study Abroad students may require tests prior to departure. Please contact the Center for Global Engagement for information and details.

Faculty and Staff Testing

Faculty and staff seeking testing are asked to contact their health care provider, and quarantine if you are experiencing symptoms.

Report a positive test result to Human Resources at leaves.accommodations@gonzaga.edu as soon as possible.
