LCS Northwest On-Campus Advocate

Gonzaga has partnered with Lutheran Community Services to provide an on-campus, confidential, sexual assault victim advocate. The advocate can inform you of your rights and options. LCS Northwest Advocates are a legally protected support person with privileged communication who can be present in law enforcement reporting, interviews,Title IX proceedings and criminal and civil court hearings.  Advocates can also assist in petitioning and obtaining lawful protection orders, as well as safety planning at any stage of their journey.  Additionally, the advocate can walk you through your criminal and Title IX reporting options and can assist you in connecting to confidential support resources such as counseling and support groups. If you need immediate assistance, you can call LCS Northwest's 24-Hour crisis line at (509) 624-7273. Advocates can accompany you to the hospital and assist you through a forensic examination if you so choose. You will be connected to the on-campus advocate the next business day.

Campus Security and Public Safety

Campus Security & Public Safety Officers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to incidents of gender-based and sexual misconduct. Officers are able to take reports, provide support, and assist in contacting LCS Northwest and/or local law enforcement. Campus Security can also arrange free transportation to local hospitals for students who wish to seek medical attention or pursue evidence collection after experiencing sexual assault. Campus Security is a non-confidential resource.

Center for Cura Personalis

Students who have ongoing support needs or want additional assistance as a result of an incident of sexual misconduct or domestic/dating violence are welcome to reach out to the Center for Cura Personalis (CCP). Our case managers can assist students in connecting to on and off campus resources that can help with a variety of concerns and needs. CCP also facilitates numerous programs that promote bystander behavior and support sexual assault prevention. If you aren’t sure where to start, CCP is often a great place. Whether you are a student who has experienced sexual misconduct or intimate partner violence or you know someone who has, it can be difficult to decide whether or not to report the behavior. The University has a desire, as a compassionate institution, and a responsibility under Title IX, to respond to reports of sexual misconduct and intimate partner violence. Health & Counseling Services

Health & Counseling Services functions as your private physician's office and counseling center. The Health & Counseling Services staff have a strong focus on wellness and want you to fully benefit from Gonzaga’s Jesuit education. Our Board Certified Family Physicians, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses and Counselors are here to give you our expertise and care in a confidential setting. Our clinicians are able to diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medications, provide psychological counseling, and support students with long-term health concerns. We can attend to medical needs, including STD**, and pregnancy testing after an assault. Please be aware that the Health & Counseling Services cannot collect evidence, but will arrange free transportation to a local facility that can. Disability Access Office

Students who have diagnosed health or mental health needs as a result of an incident of sexual misconduct or domestic/dating violence may want to consider working with the Disability Access Office to see if academic or living accommodations are appropriate. The Disability Access Office can be contacted at (509) 313-4134 or by visiting their office on the second floor of Foley. Disability Access keeps all medical records confidential; however, they must report any information regarding gender-based and sexual misconduct to the University.

The LGBTQ+ Resource Center at Gonzaga University is inspired and guided by the university mission and values of faith, service, justice, leadership, and ethics. It aims to serve as a center for supporting community, networking, research, and education related to concerns shared by students, staff, and faculty of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions.

Law Enforcement

Students are encouraged to report sexual misconduct and violence that may also violate the law to the Spokane Police Department. Any of the confidential or reporting resources listed earlier in this guide can assist students in filing a police report. Spokane Police can be reached at the following numbers: 911 (emergency and where potential collection of evidence is time sensitive) or (509) 456-2233 (Crime Check - for any situation where the crime has already occurred and the alleged perpetrator is no longer around). Please know that professional staff in Gonzaga’s Title IX Office are available to discuss the process of reporting to the criminal justice system.

Community Based Sexual Assault and Crime Program

This is a free and confidential 24-Hour Hotline with advocates available to provide you with information and walk you through all of your options. They can also accompany you to the hospital and assist you through an examination process. Advocates can also assist you with filling out an application for Spokane Crime Victim Compensation Program which provides free services available to victims who file a report with Spokane Police Department. CVCP can cover costs associated with obtaining counseling or any other medical health care costs due to any injuries or on-going physical or mental health needs. These services are covered regardless of the findings of a police report that is made in “good faith”.

LCS Northwest is a local agency specializing in supporting persons who have experienced sexual violence, stalking, intimate partner and dating violence, harassment or discrimination, and hate crimes. This agency also operates the Community Based Sexual Assault and Crime Program, a service with trained victim’s advocates to provide medical and legal advocacy, including explaining of your rights and information on the legal process, assist you in preparing for interviews and trials, support at interviews with investigators, prosecutors, and defense attorneys, and accompaniment at criminal trials, sentencing, and beyond. Further, Lutheran also offers counseling and support groups to assist individuals both short and long-term. Lutheran is completely independent of Gonzaga and does not share any information with the university.

YWCA Alternatives to Domestic Violence Program

The YWCA Alternatives to Domestic Violence Program (ADVP) serves victims/survivors of intimate partner domestic violence. The YWCA ADVP program offers housing services, including emergency safe shelter housing, criminal and civil legal services, domestic violence counseling and support groups. The crisis/informational line (509) 326-2255 answered by advocates is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Counseling

As we have mentioned many times, healing is an important part of this journey. Often counseling is one vital step in the healing process. There are various counselors and therapists available in the Spokane area who specialize in providing support in difficult times. Referrals for local clinicians are available through Gonzaga’s Counseling Center and also through LCS Northwest.

Human Resources is available to assist employees who may need disability accommodations, leaves of absence, or support in utilizing their benefits. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, communicating, and implementing benefit programs as well as disability and leave of absence management for employees.
