Dr. González was named Gonzaga’s first provost and senior vice president in the spring of 2019. She is charged with guiding the transition to a provost structure at the University, which will provide a more fully integrated student experience by bringing together the academic and student development divisions. Prior to coming to Gonzaga, Dr. González was the associate provost for faculty affairs and professor in the department of Chicana/o, Latina/o studies at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles. She served in a number of academic and administrative roles at LMU, including as chair of the department of Chicana/o studies, which she led through its first formal review and accreditation. Named one of the 50 most important living women historians in the United States by the Sophia Smith Radcliffe/Harvard project, she was honored at a special session of the Organization of American Historians (OAH) in Philadelphia in April, 2019 for her work mentoring historians. Born and raised in New Mexico (14th generation), Dr. González earned a bachelor’s degree history/anthropology/liberal arts from New Mexico State University and both a master’s degree and doctorate in history from the University of California, Berkley. She was the first Chicana to complete the doctoral program. Her cultural background was the stepping-stone for her dissertation research, which became her first book (“Refusing the Favor,” Oxford University Press, 1999). She is a co-founder of the Native/Chicana academic organization, MALCS (Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social), a mentor to several scholars of the American West, and a passionate teacher-scholar, honed during her first academic position at Pomona College (1983-2001). She has published more than 50 journal articles, book chapters, and working papers, as well as the first and only book series exploring the lives, histories, and experiences of Mexican-origin women, “Chicana Matters,” (University of Texas Press). Many of these publications have been instrumental in co-establishing the fields of Chicana/o history, Latina/o studies and Chicana studies. |

Dr. Kent Porterfield was appointed Vice Provost for Student Affairs in July, 2020. He is responsible for overseeing the Student Affairs Division and promotes an educational experience that emphasizes the development of the whole student – intellectual, spiritual, cultural, physical, and emotional. Kent’s career in higher education spans three decades, including nearly 23 years as a senior student affairs officer. In his previous role, Dr. Porterfield served as Vice President for Student Development at Saint Louis University, a Jesuit Catholic research university in St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to that he served as Vice President for Student Affairs at Northwest Missouri State University. Kent is a national leader in the student affairs field, having served as President of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) in 2014-2015. He is also a past President of the Missouri College Personnel Association. Kent is a recipient of ACPA’s Annuit Coeptis Senior Professional Award, Diamond Honoree recognition for outstanding contributions in the field of student affairs, and the Outstanding State Division President Award. Kent’s professional presentations and publications have engaged a range of student affairs topics including leadership; diversity, equity and inclusion; rethinking student affairs practice; student learning; retention and student success. In his career, he has overseen many areas of student life, including athletics, campus ministry, campus recreation, cross-cultural center, career services, dean of students office, health and counseling services, housing and residence life, international services, multicultural affairs, service and community engagement, disability services, student union/center, student academic success, student conduct, student involvement, parent and family programs, and auxiliary services. |

Dr. Ron Large is an Associate Provost for Educational Effectiveness and Professor of Religious Studies. In his role as Associate Provost he is responsible for overseeing Accreditation, Assessment, Faculty Development and Academic Technology. His academic area of specialization is Christian Ethics, with an emphasis on Christian Social Ethics and peace studies. Dr. Large took his Bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia where he majored in Religious Studies. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, where his thesis examined violence and nonviolence as methods of social change. He received his doctorate from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA with a dissertation on the connection between virtue and social change in the thought of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mohandas Gandhi. He teaches classes in Nonviolence, Christian Morality, Death and Dying, Sexual Morality, Religion and Film, and the Vietnam War. For the academic year 2000-2001, he was named Teacher of the Year at Gonzaga. He also received Gonzaga University's Exemplary Faculty Award for 2009-2010. In the summer of 2006, Dr. Large was invited to attend a week long seminar on Global Peace and Security at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington DC. He received a Fulbright Scholar Award in the Fall of 2009. and taught in the International Peace Studies Program at the Irish School of Ecumenics at Trinity College Dublin. |

Julie McCulloh joined Gonzaga’s Office of Admission in the summer of 1993 as a receptionist while pursuing her Master’s in Business Administration. From her early years, Julie worked in various aspects of admission work including transfer counseling and credit evaluation, records management, admission recruiting and counseling, and administration. She was appointed Dean of Admission in 2003 and served continuously in that role until 2019, when she was appointed to her current role. Throughout her time with Gonzaga, she has been involved in various professional organizations including PNACAC, the College Board, ACT, and the Washington Council. Currently, Julie oversees Undergraduate Admission, Graduate Enrollment Management, Admission Operations, Student Financial Services, and the Center for Global Engagement. Julie’s areas of interest in higher education include equity and access, and she works to make a Gonzaga education accessible for those seeking exemplary education for lives of leadership and service for the common good. |

Dr. Weber has been at Gonzaga University since 1987, when she enrolled as an undergraduate student. She became a full-time employee in 1988 and has since served Gonzaga in various roles. Currently, Dr. Weber is the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Administration and the University Registrar. As the primary assistant to the Provost and Senior Vice President (PSVP), Dr. Weber oversees and facilitates the creation, implementation, and enforcement of academic policies and initiatives to enhance the academic experience of students and support the work of the faculty. She assists the Provost with academic policy appeals and academically-related student concerns and serves as the Provost’s liaison to Student Affairs, Enrollment Management (including Graduate Enrollment Management), University Advancement, Athletics, Marketing and Communication, Human Resources, Finance, and other areas supporting the University’s academic mission. Vice Provost Weber oversees the offices of the University Registrar, Institutional Research, Career and Professional Development, University Core Curriculum, and the Honors Program. She supervises the work involved with delivering Summer Sessions, facilitates the work of the Academic Council (Gonzaga’s primary academic policy informing body), and coordinates efforts related to academic program data production and financial analysis, including efforts related to academic planning and budgeting. Her dissertation explored the impact of adjunctive faculty on freshman-to-sophomore retention. |

Ms. Rinderle provides administrative support to the Provost and Senior Vice President. She manages the process for faculty reappointment, promotion, tenure, and sabbatical. She serves as a department liaison to the President, deans, faculty, students, administration, and others. Her favorite things about Gonzaga are the people it attracts—people committed to its mission, the environment of cura personalis, and seeing the sun stream through the stained glass windows in College Hall. She enjoys looking for treasures at thrift stores and rummage sales. |

Ms. Mealey is responsible for assisting two of the Associate Provosts and the University Core Director. She is a Gonzaga alumna, growing up in the neighborhood attending St. Aloysius Elementary, Holy Names Academy and Gonzaga Preparatory School, before attending Gonzaga University. |

Mrs. Thomas joined the Student Accounts Office in 1989 and transferred to the Provost Office in 1998. For 20 years, she was responsible for academic budgeting and personnel. In 2019, her focus shifted to primarily academic personnel issues and processes to address current and future-oriented needs. She serves as the principal personnel interface and liaison between the academic and non-academic areas of the University and oversees the operational and financial aspects of faculty and academic staff hiring. She believes Gonzaga provides a wonderful education and experience for our students and enjoys doing what she can to support the mission of the University. |

Mrs. Senn provides administrative support functions for the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President and she assists Vice Provost, Dr. Jolanta Weber and Associate Provost, Dr. Ron Large. It is likely that Carri will be the first person you talk to when calling the Provost and Senior Vice President’s Office. She also is the point of contact for Academic Council proceedings. She is a Gonzaga alumna and her favorite aspects about Gonzaga are the inspiring students and the historical presence of Gonzaga in the Spokane community. Carri worked in the Registrar’s Office prior to transferring to the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President’s Office. |

Ms. Marcantel is responsible for supporting the Provost in all aspects of budget-related matters in the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President. She serves as the principal budget interface and liaison to support the academic division in all aspects of budget-related matters including expenditure evaluation, monitoring and approval for budget processes and financial procedures, as well as faculty personnel and appointment-related procedures involving various departments and programs. Prior to moving to Spokane, she worked at University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio and University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. |

Ms. Harper provides administrative support functions for the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President and she assists Provost González together with MaryAnn Rinderle. She is a Gonzaga alumna, graduated in 2017, and attended St. Patrick’s, St. Thomas More, and Gonzaga Preparatory School. Bonnie’s focuses are schedule management, Provost-sponsored event coordination, and updating the web presence for the Provost & Senior Vice President. Bonnie worked with the Mathematics and Physics Departments prior to transferring to the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President’s Office. Prior to coming to Gonzaga, Bonnie worked in both the non-profit sector and the legal field. She raised six children and now has five grandchildren. |
